The Italian Ministry of Culture has recently unveiled “Musei Italiani,” a newapp designed to enrich the museum-going experience by offering comprehensive information on Italy’s national museums and enabling online ticket purchases.
Available in both Italian and English, the app provides details on 406 museums and archaeological parks across Italy. It features geolocation to help visitors find cultural sites with ease, and by purchasing tickets directly through the app, users can avoid intermediary costs.
Since its launch, the free app has issued over 3 million tickets and is set to expand to include all state public museums and other cultural sites. Future updates will introduce new features such as recommended itineraries and audioguide services, further enhancing the visitor experience.
Funded by Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the launch of “Musei Italiani” represents a significant step forward in the digitalization of Italian museums. The app also aims to spotlight lesser-known cultural sites, helping to diversify tourist flows. In 2023, Italian museums welcomed nearly 58 million visitors, marking a 23% increase compared to 2022.
