In order to obtain a new Italian passport, minor applicants must be:
- Italian Citizens;
- Enrolled into our AIRE (Registry of Italian residing abroad) and reside in our consular jurisdiction of South California, New Mexico, Arizona and Nevada;
- Have an appointment booked online through our PRENOT@MI booking system.
Passport applications for MINORS UNDER 12 YEARS OLD will be processed by mail (see address at the top of the page) and do not require an appointment.
Applicants older than 12 years old must apply in person with the parents.
Documentation to provide at the time of the appointment:
- Passport application form
- Pictures are normally taken here at the time of the application, but we still recommend bringing one Standard US Passport photo size in case the new photolive system is down.
- Previous Italian passport, (if not first-time applicant);
- USA Visa or Green Card (photocopy if mailed), if applicable;
- USA passport (photocopy if mailed), if applicable;
- Both Parents passports (photocopy if mailed);
- Consent of the other parent only when not present at the time of the appointment. The consent cannot be older than 6 months. Please also provide a photocopy of the minor’s birth certificate:If other parent is a citizen of Italy or of the European Union: the consent form signed by the other parent must include a photocopy of his/her valid Italian or E.U. passport (page with passport holder’s information AND signature).If other parent is NOT a citizen of Italy of the European Union: the signature on the consent form must be authenticated either by a notary public, OR by an Honorary Consul.If other parent is deceased: provide a photocopy of the death certificate of the deceased parent.
- Passport Fee. Please consult our Consular fees the amount corresponds to the line “RILASCIO ART. 27 (A + B)”. We accept ONLY money order or cashier’s checks made out to “Consulate General of Italy and in exceptional cases also cash. No personal checks or credit/debit cards;
- Normally, the passport is issued at the time of the application. In case of unforeseeable malfunctioning of the system or in very busy periods, the passport could be mailed using a pre-paid, self-addressed USPS Priority Return envelope provided by the applicant (we do not accept Fedex, UPS or DHL) (in these case fill out this mailing consent form) or picked up in person when ready..
FOR 12 YEARS OLD AND YOUNGER:
Documentation to be sent by mail:
- Passport application form signed by both parents (if one parent is not an Italian or EU citizen, the signature must be legalized by a public notary);
- Two passport pictures (Standard US Passport size are fine);
- Previous Italian passport, (if not first-time applicant);
- USA Visa or Green Card, if applicable;
- Copy of US passport, if applicable;
- Copies of both parents’ passports;
- Passport Fee. Please consult our Consular fees the amount corresponds to the line “RILASCIO ART. 27 (A + B)”. We accept ONLY money order or cashier’s checks made out to “Consulate General of Italy”. No personal checks or credit/debit cards.
- Pre-paid, self-addressed USPS Priority Return envelope (we do not accept Fedex, UPS or DHL) and mailing consent form filled out and signed.
Please note: If one of the parent is deceased: provide a photocopy of the death certificate.
The passport will be valid 3 years for kids younger than 3 years old; it will be valid 5 years for kids between 3 and 18 years old.
