Arizona celebrates Soleri’s genius (September 20, 2013)

In 2013 – the Year of Italian Culture in the US, with a three-day festivities, Arizona celebrated on September 20-22 the career and accomplishments of Paolo Soleri, the Italian architect internationally known for his revolutionary urban and architectural theories, who passed on April 9 at the age of 94.
A key moment for the celebration was the screening, in the symbolic venue of Taliesin West on September 20, of the movie by Lisa Scafuro “The vision of Paolo Soleri: Prophet in the Desert” (see trailer below), featuring the life and work of the founder of  Arcosanti as well as his troubled relationship with Frank Lloyd Wright. The movie was presented by the President of the Cosanti Foundation, Jeff Stein, who reiterated the commitment of the Foundation to promoting Soleri’s heritage through a wide range of activities and projects.
In his remarks Consul General Perrone expressed Italy’s pride and appreciation for Soleri, whose vision and creativity have left an indelible mark on modern architecture and urban theory. For more information visit www.arcosanti.org
