“Invisible Cities” at Union Station (October 19, 2013)

“Invisible Cities” at Union Station, wearing headphones to the opera would be frowned upon, but for this site-specific theater experiment, they’re part of the experience. Adapted from Italo Calvino’s mind-bending novel imagining a series of conversations between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan, Yuval Sharon’s new stageless opera will float through the architectural gem that is Union Station, with headphone-wearing audience members searching freely for the eight singers and seven dancers backed by an 11-piece chamber orchestra.
