During his Los Angeles visit, the Ambassador of Italy to the U.S., Claudio Bisogniero, was guided through the new exhibit, curated by Peter Frank, on show at the Italian Cultural Institute, Transparency: Salvatore Emblema.\u00a0

This exhibit, the first dedicated to the artist in Los Angeles, features about 30 works including paintings, sculptures and one large environmental installation. The show highlights the most distinctive trait of Salvatore Emblema\u2019s pictorical research: The Transparency. The term, used in 1969 by Italian art historian Giulio Carlo Argan, describes the ability of the artist\u2019s paintings to interact with the existing light and space.

Textural experiments of the late \u201850s \u2013 at that time Emblema was working in New York – to the iconic canvases of the early \u201870s will be on view. These last paintings, so-called \u201cUnweaved\u201d, are characterized by the removal of jute\u2019s wires from the surface of the canvas, which leaves a glimpse of the light-space that lies behind the picture.

Two works which belong to this period will join the collection of MOCA Los Angeles. The exhibit will stay open until the 31st of May 2013 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Westwood.
