From June 3rd through June 15th two exhibits held at the Italian Cultural Institute highlight the richness of Sicily\u2019s culture. Giuseppe Leone\u2019s photo exhibit \u201cBetween Mozia and Lilibeo.\u00a0 Landscapes and Monuments of Sicily\u201d\u00a0 reveals the interconnection between the striking natural beauty of the island and the artistic expressions that it craddled, offering images of salt-mines (salt pits), expanses of mediterranean brush spotted by archeological digs, from which have been recovered masterpieces of classical\u00a0 times like the \u201cYouth of Motia\u201d statue, currently on exhibit at the Getty Villa,\u00a0 completing an ideal journey of discovery. The second exhibit, \u201cSalt Corals\u201d by Daniela Neri, focuses on a rich tradition of craftsmanship and displays beautiful jewels crafted with a material created by that generous and rugged\u00a0 nature.
The exhibits are further enriched by the projection of images of the\u00a0 varied landscape and traditional activities, such as fishing, that characterize the island .
The event\u00a0 was organized under the auspices of the Consulate General of Italy in cooperation with the Getty Center, The City of Marsala and the Archeological Area of the Stagnone Islands and is part of the \u201c2013 Year of Italian Culture in the United States\u201d program .
