The other nominees were the French \u201cBlue is the Warmest Color\u201d,\u00a0 the Iranian entry \u201cThe Past\u201d, the Swedish \u201cThe Hunt\u201d and the Japanese \u201cThe Wing Rises\u201d. <BR>\u201cThe Great Beauty\u201d, which to great acclaim opened in Los Angeles the Italian festival Cinema Italian Style on November 14th, is the first Italian movie to win a Golden Globe since \u201cNew Cinema Paradiso\u201d in 1989. Currently distributed by Janus Films, The Great Beauty was also the central feature of the Italian participation in the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where it was screened on January 10th.<BR>Paolo Sorrentino, who will turn 44 next May, was born in Naples, the city that inspired his first screenplay \u201cPolvere di Napoli\u201d. After a cameo role in Nanni Moretti\u2019s \u201cThe Cayman\u201d, Sorrentino gained international recognition as director in 2004 with the thriller \u201cThe Consequences of Love\u201d .
