Vico Magistretti\u2019s genius on view for the first time in Los Angeles (June 9, 2014)<\/P>
The creative genius of Vico Magistretti is showcased for the first time on the West Coast courtesy of two separate but interconnected exhibits organized in Los Angeles in cooperation with the Fondazione Vico Magistretti in Milan. \u201cThe Living Environment\u201d opened on June 9th at the Consul General\u2019s residence in the Hollywood Hills, featuring several vintage original pieces of furniture and decoration designed by Magistretti over the course of his long and prolific career, from the Maralunga seating system and the Nuvola Rossa bookcase for Cassina to the Golem chairs for Poggi, to the historic coffee table Caori for Gavina, to the Vanja bed for Flou. On display also the\u00a0 sculptural and iconic floor and table lamps designed for Artemide (Lambda, Telegono, Eclisse, Giunone, Mezzachimera and Chimera) and Oluce (Lyndon).
The Italian Cultural Institute is hosting the second leg of the project: \u201cA Traveling Archive\u201d , inaugurated on June 12th and open until July 31st.\u00a0 Magistretti\u2019s Milan studio was recreated with a special installation, using original drawings along with personal notes and photographs. Several prototypes of Magistretti\u2019s most emblematic designs, such as the Selene and the Vicario chairs, are also on view, together with pictures of buildings designed in Milan. The experience of the designer\u2019s working environment and the masterly introduction to the exhibit delivered by the Magistretti Foundation Director, Dr. Rosanna Pavone, offered visitors the opportunity to explore Magistretti\u2019s methodology and creative process.
