And the Oscar goes to…. “The Great Beauty” (March 2, 2014)

It had not happened since 1998, but last night the Oscar for best Foreign Language Film went to the Italian entry “The Great Beauty”. The movie, directed by Paolo Sorrentino, has completed the “Grand Slam” of cinema awards, after winning the Golden Globe, BAFTA, the European Film Award and getting nominated for the Golden Palm in Cannes.
Thanks to Sorrentino’s film Italy can now boast 11 Oscars as the Best Foreign Language Film, not counting the three honorary awards received before the category was established and the 18 nominations. To Paolo Sorrentino and the entire cast: congratulations!
