Thousands arrived in Elko Nevada for the 29th National Cowboy Poetry Gathering from all over the United States. The audience was made up of photographers, writers, musicians, breeders, farmers and many curious bystanders.
For an entire week all that is “cowboy” is celebrated (in the true meaning of the word, one which tends cattle). There is country music played and poetry read. Workshops are formed in order to teach different breeding and herding techniques and to inform on new regulations and laws. Every year, this being its 29th edition, the gathering honors one particular country. This time the honorary guests were Butteri della Maremma who arrived in Elko bringing music, cooking, and their international experience on breeding cattle.
Many do not know that this vivacious town is the leading city in the US for gold mining. It welcomed, at the turn of the century, many Italian immigrants who helped form a substantial Italian American community dedicated to the world of breeding .
