II Level Master’s Program in “International Protection of Human Rights” – Universita’ di Roma, La Spienza

The II Level Master’s Program in “International Protection of Human Rights” is promoted and organized by the Department of Political Sciences of the University Sapienza of Rome under the direction of Professor Sergio Marchisio. It is addressed to graduated in Political Sciences, Law, Economics; Philosophy, Sociology, Human Sciences, Oriental Studies (See announcement par. 4).

It’s main purpose is to train and support future professional figures in the human rights field. It focuses on human rights law from several viewpoints, including historical and philosophical perspectives. The main aspects dealt with are the universal and regional systems of protection of human rights, the rules of procedure and implementation of the international conventions, the case-law of international courts, humanitarian law, human rights and sustainable development, women and children’s rights.

The programme is designed to introduce students from various backgrounds and with different professional interests to the general legal principles of human rights. Participants will also follow a three-month internship to complete their individual plan with an experience in the field. The organizations offering internships vary from year to year. In the past, they have included UNICRI, UNHCR, Commissione nazionale per il diritto d’asilo, CIR, Caritas Roma, Archivio Disarmo, ISGNI-CNR, Unione Forense per la tutela dei diritti umani, Associazione Antigone and other organizations.
