Costumes and sketches from Verdi’s operas on show at the Italian Cultural Institute (April 17, 2014)

On April 17 the show Tribute to Verdi, organized in cooperation with the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, was inaugurated at the Italian Cultural Institute. The exhibit tells the story of the most famous and significant performances of Verdi’s operas through set designs and costumes created by some of the most important artists of the XX century, such as Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli, Pierluigi Pizzi, Danilo Donati e Nicola Benois. The installation, which included 18 original costumes dating back to 1916 worn among others by Beniamino Gigli, Renata Scotto and Angela Gheorghiu, was introduced by the Director of the Historical Archives at the Rome Opera House, Francesco Reggiani. A multimedia performance based on La Traviata, produced by visual artist Alessandro Marianantoni, completed the evening.
