“Hats on Film” flies to L.A. (February 19, 2013)
With great acclaim and amid an enthusiastic crowd, the exhibit Hats on Film opened at the Italian Cultural Institute where it will stay on show until March 8 as part of the Los Angeles program for the Year of Italian Culture in the United States. ICI Director Alberto Di Mauro welcomed guests and introduced the delegation flown from Florence to show live the art of hat-making. Giorgiana Corsini, co-presenter of the initiative together with Neri Torrigiani, illustrated the making of the exhibit through the work of Artigianato e Palazzo, Fondazione Sistema Toscana, Museo dell’Intreccio e della Paglia, Galleria del Costume di Palazzo Pitti. In his remarks Consul General Perrone stressed the importance of the exhibit against the background of the program “2013 – Year of Italian Culture in the US”.
Hats on Film features a hundred straw hats, created by the consortium Il Cappello di Firenze in its decade-old  collaboration with Hollywood’s movie industry in such masterpieces as Pretty Woman, Tea with Mussolini, Pride and Prejudice, Sex and the City, etc..
Complementing the exhibition is a historic photographic show on Tuscan hat-crafting tradition as well as a straw hat making demo and a video of film clips featuring hats in famous movies.
