L.A.- Italia Film Fest to open on February 17 within “2013 Year of Italian Culture in the US” (January 6, 2013)

Celebrated Italian filmmaker Michele Placido will be honored at the 8th Los Angeles, Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest to be held at the Hollywood Chinese Theatre during the week preceding the Oscars (February 17-23) within the framework of “2013- Year of Italian Culture in the United States”.
“L.A.- Italia”, which is chaired this year by Italian-American talent manager and film executive Rick Nicita, with producer Mark Canton serving as honorary chair, is produced by Istituto Capri nel Mondo, in association with the Consulate General of Italy, Cim Group, Chinese Theaters LLC, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Cinema Department of the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, eni, Cinecittà Studios, the Italian Trade Commission, the Italian Cultural Institute in Los Angeles and Cinecittà Luce.
The event will feature a retrospective of Placido’s films, including “Angel of Evil”, “The Big Dream” as well as the US premiere of his latest movie “The Lookout” starring French actors Daniel Auteuil and Mathieu Kassovitz and the director’s daughter Violante Placido (“The American,” “Ghost Rider”). In addition to the Placido tribute, the Fest will present the 2013 L.A. ITALIA – EXCELLENCE AWARD to noted Italian actors Franco Nero (“Django”) and Giuliano Gemma (“Arizona Colt”). Both will be part of the Festival’s tribute to the famous “spaghetti western” movie heroes which inspired Quentin Tarantino ‘s highly acclaimed new film “Django Unchained”. The Fest will also include conferences at the University of Southern California and will present a selection of first and second movies from young Italian filmmakers.
