General Instructions for all Applicants
  • Due to the high number of requests, the Citizenship Department cannot unfortunately check documentation in advance before your appointment date.

  • Documents must be submitted in person by applicants that reside in the Consular jurisdiction of this Office (link

  • Each applicant over 18 years of age must indicate his/her own email address. We cannot accept the email address of a third party (family member, agency, translator, attorney, etc)
  • Once all the proper documents have been submitted, this department will review it and forward them to Italy for registration. The Consulate will inform the applicant about the positive conclusion of the procedure by official letter. This will entitle the applicant to then apply for an Italian passport.
  • If the applicant is married and has children under the legal age (under 18), you must submit TO THE VITAL RECORDS OFFICE your marriage certificate (license and certificate, in certified copy and legalized with the "Apostille" of the Secretary of State) along with a copy of your spouse's birth certificate and certified copy of birth certificate/s, legalized with the Apostille of the Secretary of State. Effective July 8th, 2014, applications for the recognition of the Italian citizenship are subject to the Payment of a fee of 300,00 EURO equivalent to USD in accordance to the exchange rate posted in this web site Consular Fees (please refer to the right side of your screen under the heading Forms and Information).

The fee is subject to change according to the exchange rate stipulated by our Ministry.

Only US Dollars are accepted and the payment must be paid through Money Order to the “Consulate General of Italy in Los Angeles” on the day of the appointment.

The application fee is non refundable, regardless of the outcome of the petition.

The fee shall apply to each single individual  over the age of 18 requesting Jure Sanguinis (by descent)
